Agenda

Kurt

(fiber revisited and starch) Fiber Fundamentals plus that Pesky Starch: Review of the CHO fractions of forage fiber and how they vary with plant maturity and forage types.  A look at NDFd profiles and what they may NOT tell us. Review of NDS uNDF outputs in Rumen Fill and the “Portfolio” sections. Starch, such a significant contributor to ME and MP, yet still an enigma.

Andrew

(CNCPS v6.5.6; Research and its Application) Updates to the CNCPS (v6.5.6) more closely evaluate rumen conditions and nutrient status to predict carbohydrate fermentability. Specifically, isoacids (or branched chain volatile fatty acids [BCVFAs]) ,created from the degradation of branched chain amino acids (BCAA) are considered essential nutrients for the proliferation of fiber degrading bacteria and subsequent fermentation of potentially digestible NDF (pdNDF). This conversation will center around the available research and steps taken to adjust the CNCPS for isoacid status in the rumen.

Jacob

(Branched chain volatile fatty acids (BCVFA), in NDS. The aim of the update to CNCPS v6.55, now referred to as version 6.56, is to better predict bacterial growth in the rumen by adjusting the BCVFA supply, which is considered a nutrient requirement for rumen fibrolytic bacteria. Overview of BCVFA within the NDS platform and how new requirements affect ME and MP outputs. We will look at utilizing BCVFA requirements in ration formulation, model limitations, and future possibilities of BCVFAs.

$150 per person.
